The full-size E-SUV category is still being shaken up for the 2022 model year thanks to the Dodge Durango, which underwent a significant redesign in 2021. The inexpensive three-row muscular SUV continues to provide unparalleled utility, class-leading hauling, fashionable appearance, and the most recent infotainment technology. A “charger SUV,” as Dodge refers to it, the Durango is a family-friendly SUV with a Dodge muscle car attitude. So what’s new for the 2022 Dodge Durango?
The 2022 Dodge Durango model will be offered in five trim levels (SXT, SRT392, GT, Citadel, and R/T). After a one-year production run, the Durango SRT Hellcat is DEAD. Although now the most powerful model, the SRT392 is the fastest, most capable, and most powerful three-row SUV in America.
Four different all-wheel drive (AWD) systems are available in the 2022 Dodge Durango lineup. On Pentastar models, single-speed MP2010 full-time AWD offers a 50/50 torque split between the rear and front wheels.
Standard on 5.7-liter HEMI models is the MP2025 two-speed electronically-shifted AWD system with a range of 2.72 Lo. An optional MP2015 single-speed Electronic Proportional Active AWD system is available for the 5.7L HEMI.
MP3010 single-speed electronic proportional AWD is standard for the performance lineup on the SRT392 and R/T Tow N’ Go models. The MP3010 system offers four different modes, Track (30/70), Snow and Tow (50/50), Auto (40/60), and Sport (35/65).
The 2022 Dodge Durango continues to offer best-in-class towing ratings with the powerful R/T Tow N’ Go and SRT392 models. The HEMI-powered SRT392 and R/T Tow N’ Go offer 8,700 lbs. towing capacity (1,500 pounds more than the all-new 2022 Jeep® Grand Cherokee two-row and HEMI-powered three-row Grand Cherokee L). Quite an impressive feat considering the much more modern architecture of the Grand Cherokee (WL).
For those who opt for the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 powering the Durango, those models are still able to tow 6,200 pounds across the SXT, GT, and Citadel range.
When it comes to the latest equipment changes for 2022, there are quite a few. For starters, blind spot monitoring (BSM) and rear cross-detection are standard across the Durango range.
Durango GT and SXT models are also designed with more standard equipment for the new year. These features include:

Inside, Dodge completely redesigned Durango’s dashboard for the 2021 model year. The previous Durango’s interior was user-friendly, well-finished, and had a pretty good infotainment system but a more generic curvy design. Now, Durango’s dashboard shows no signs of its age.
The new design places the infotainment screen on the upper layer of the dashboard, connecting it to the instrument cluster rather than a collection of physical buttons and controls below. And in a sporty twist, the Dodge Challenger sports coupe also shares the same T-shaped shifter with the Durango.
Moreover, while last year’s 8.4-inch system remains standard, the new 10.1-inch Stellantis system is now widely available (and included in our test vehicle). We especially liked the ability to customize the screen with different layouts, making great use of the generous space.
And the system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless smartphone integration. We also appreciate that the new interior layout sticks to simple buttons and knobs, and the materials remain richer than some might expect from Dodge.
In terms of performance, there are three engine options available for 2022. There’s a standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 293 hp on SXT models (single exhaust) or 295 hp on GT and Citadel models (dual exhaust) and 260 lb. ft. torque. The HEMI V8 5.7-liter produces a best-in-class 360 hp, and 390 lb.-ft of torque is optional on the luxury-oriented Citadel and standard on R/T models. For those looking for even more power, the 6.4-liter (392 cubic-inch) SRT HEMI V8 delivers 475 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft of torque, goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and can sprint through the NHRA-certified quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds.
All powertrains are mated to an 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission (8HP70 for HEMI models and 850RE for Pentastar).
