The 2023 Grand Cherokee is a versatile SUV that sits at the intersection of masculinity and elegance. The mid-and high-end trims are stuffed with luxury features and high-end materials that position the Grand as a player in the upscale segment. At the same time, the base model Grand continues to deliver a perfectly mainstream package that is not overly fancy. Despite its upward mobility, the Grand Cherokee still has Jeep-like off-road capabilities. Three various powertrains are available, including V-6 and V-8 engines and the 4xe plug-in hybrid system. The Grand Cherokee is a two-row SUV. It’s just as happy with family life in the suburbs as it is zipping through the woods and offers plenty of room for passengers and cargo in its roomy cabin. Following a complete redesign for the 2022 model year, the 2023 Grand Cherokee has undergone minor changes. The off-road-oriented Trailhawk model is currently only available with Jeep’s 4xe hybrid powertrain, which is one of them. A 10.1-inch infotainment screen with navigation is now standard on Limited and Overland grades in the middle of the range. On the Limited, a nine-speaker Alpine stereo is now a stand-alone option. Overland and Summit variants can also be specified simultaneously with a 19-speaker McIntosh stereo.

The interior of Tupelo at Summit Reserve is on the verge of decadence. The standard Grand Cherokee offers an attractively designed yet understated interior with gloss black accents and smooth surfaces. A heated steering wheel and heated seats are available from the base model (with the package, of course). Higher trim levels are clad in enough leather and detailing to make the Grand Cherokee a reliable luxury vehicle.
Depending on how you choose to equip it, the Grand Cherokee ranges from conventionally technical to a geek’s dream. The base Grand Cherokee includes an 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system with Android Auto wireless and Apple CarPlay, paired with a six-speaker audio system that can be upgraded to a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Alpine or top-of-the-line McIntosh navigation and audio system. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB A, USB Type-C, and HDMI inputs for personal devices.
Loaded with the Summit Reserve and rear-seat entertainment packages, the Grand Cherokee L will offer more USB ports than most owners can use at once (feel free to prove us wrong). A 10.25-inch passenger-side infotainment screen provides entertainment and comfort options for front-row passengers without distracting the driver.
Like the last-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee, the new one is equipped with a 293-hp 3.6-liter V-6. or a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with a capacity of 357 hp. Jeep also offers a 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four and an electric traction motor that produce 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid engine is powered by a battery with a capacity of 14.0 kWh. The rear-wheel drive of this Jeep model is standard on the base V-6, but all-wheel drive is standard on Jeep Grand Cherokees with a V-8 or hybrid powertrain. Several all-wheel drive systems are available, including an electronically limited locking differential. The Trailhawk model’s more capable off-road setup includes a detachable strut that improves wheel flexibility for rough terrain and an adjustable air suspension that can provide up to 11.3 inches of ground clearance. The Grand Cherokee’s composed, smooth ride and its powerful V-6 and V-8 engines pleased us on our initial test drive.
