With unmatched utility, cutting-edge technology, class-leading towing, confident driving dynamics, classic style, and the return of the most powerful SUV globally with the 2023 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat model, the Dodge Durango continues to showcase its proven performance.
Due to fan demand, the Durango SRT Hellcat, initially released as a one-year-only model for 2021, is returning and remains the ideal option for SUV muscle fans with families. The 2023 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds, complete a quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds, has been certified by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), and accelerate to a top speed of 180 mph.
With its six different models, the Durango provides a variety of engine choices, including the 475-hp SRT 392 and 710-hp SRT Hellcat. Across its lineup, the Durango continues to boast the best towing capacity.

Four new exterior color choices—Frostbite, Red Oxide, Night Moves, and Triple Nickel—bring the total number of available colors for the Durango up to eight for the 2023 model year, along with a few minor revisions. All Durango models now come standard with heated front seats, and base SXT vehicles now include frontal collision warning as an option.
The GT model in the middle is the most economical of the lot, and we recommend sticking with the regular V-6 engine rather than the thirstier V-8. After all, the Durango SRT or the limited-edition Durango SRT Hellcat is more likely to satisfy if you’re seeking a performance SUV. However, the new 10.1-inch unit, which also has in-dash navigation and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, would be of interest to us if we were to upgrade from the standard 8.4-inch infotainment system.
Up to 8700 lbs can be towable with the Durango’s optional 360-horsepower V-8 engine. Still, the 295 horsepower V-6 and eight-speed automatic transmission are more effective. Of course, Durango’s fuel efficiency falls short of its four-cylinder competitors. Still, the trade-off for the more thrilling V-8 and its substantial towing capacity may be worthwhile for some consumers. With the base eight-speed automatic transmission and the optional all-wheel drive, we evaluated both the V-6 and V-8 engines. The V-6 Durango managed a 7.4-second 0–60 mph run, while the V-8 completed it in 6.2 seconds.
The Dodge’s suspension strikes a delicate balance between comfort and sportiness. Still, the steering response and braking ability constantly remind you that you’re operating an SUV. Although the Durango isn’t outwardly sporty, its rear-wheel-drive chassis gives it an athletic feel. Its muscle-car mentality comes through in daily driving. It is a family-friendly SUV that is enjoyable to drive and practical to live with while providing a comfortable ride.
Every manufacturer combines a variety of materials, from low-cost to expensive. Still, certain designs, like the Durango’s, are more expertly produced than others. The designers prioritized ergonomics, material quality, and general comfort. However, rival vehicles provide more room for the second and third rows of passengers. The driver sees a set of gauges with white and red text on a black background.
The steering wheel has a stylish metal-look finish and a thick, leather-wrapped rim. The paddle shifters installed behind the wheel of our R/T test car worked with a pleasant click. With all the Durango seats folded flat, we could accommodate 30 carry-on bags inside. Still, with all the seats upright, we could only fit four behind the third row. In both metrics, that is two more than Acadia was able to achieve.
On top of its sculpted dashboard, the Durango sports one of the best infotainment systems available. An 8.4-inch screen is standard on base SXT and mid-range GT models, while a 10.1-inch screen is available on the GT and standard on the Citadel and R/T variants. Both screens come equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard. Also optional, a rear-seat entertainment system adds dual screens and offers RCA and HDMI ports to connect even more gadgets. We noticed that Bluetooth phone calls had good audio quality. One caller even mentioned that she could hear the thunderous rumble of the V-8 engine.
