Powertrain options include a 6.4-liter V-8 HEMI® engine with 470 horsepower (Rubicon 392), a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with stop-engine start (ESS), and a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with ESS or e-Torque mild hybrid technology. Jeep 4xe electrification is also available. A 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine with ESS is also available for four-door Wrangler models. The Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors and a 400-volt battery that delivers 49 miles per gallon-equivalent (MPGe) and 21 miles of all-electric range.
The Wrangler is one of the few SUVs offering a six-speed manual transmission and the standard eight-speed automatic. It also keeps its body-on-frame, front and rear five-link suspension, solid axles, and electronic locks. The Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition will debut for a limited time in the 2023 model year. It features a military-themed exterior, custom interior detailing, a custom steel front bumper, stone rails, and an exclusive Oskar Mike badge on the tailgate.
New for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler is an American flag decal on the front fenders. The Wrangler Rubicon gets a new standard and optional set of 17-inch wheels. New Earl (grey) and Reign (purple) paint colors surround the changes.
Six different powerplant options are still accessible for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler. A 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine with an eight-speed automated transmission and 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque is standard fare. Jeep’s eTorque mild hybrid system uses the same engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Wrangler Sahara comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four (270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque) mated exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine is optional on Sport and Rubicon variants.
Opting for the Rubicon four-door model opens up a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 with 260 hp and 442 lb-ft torque. The diesel mill is available only with the TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic, calibrated for low-rpm shifting. On the other hand, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 pairs the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with the same eight-speed automatic transmission as the diesel factory.
Finally, the new Jeep Wrangler 4xe (Rubicon and Sahara) features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine with a 400-volt battery that produces 375 horsepower 470 lb.-ft torque and two electric motors. It also gets 21 miles of all-electric range with zero emissions and an EPA rating of 49 MPGe.
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sport and Sahara get standard all-wheel drive with the Command-Trac NV241 two-speed transfer case. It features next-generation Dana front and rear axles and a low-range 2.72:1 gear ratio. An additional transmission feature is the Trac-Lok limited-slip differential, which provides continuous traction in mud, snow, sand, or ice. In addition, the Sport and Sahara are available with a Selec-Trac two-speed transfer case with all-wheel drive and a low gear ratio of 2.72:1.
Moreover, the Wrangler Rubicon four-door features Dana 44 front and heavy-duty rear axles, off-road rock rails, and a Rock-Trac NV241 two-speed transmission or the optional stock 4:1 low-range transfer case gear ratio. Also standard are a disconnected front axle, 33-inch BFGoodrich KM all-terrain tires, and electronic locking front and rear differentials.
The optional Jeep Xtreme Recon Package (applicable to the four-door Willy’s, four-door Rubicon and Rubicon 392) adds narrower 35-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain rubber, 17×8-inch Beadlock wheels, and a 1.5-inch suspension lift. , custom shocks, and a 4.56:1 axle ratio. Overall, all Wranglers with the Xtreme Recon Package have an approach angle of 47.4 degrees, a departure angle of 40.5 degrees, a ground clearance of 12.9 inches, and a wading depth of 33.6 inches.
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sport features a seven-inch Uconnect infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Wrangler Sahara and top trims have a larger 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen with standard navigation. The larger screen also comes with an updated driver information display.
High-tech safety features like stability control, electronic hill mitigation, brake traction control, and hill-start assist come as standard fare. Meanwhile, the Rubicon 392 is home to advanced driver assistance features such as blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision mitigation.
